Adventure Racing
Adventure Racing is one of the fastest growing sports in the
world, with a great human interest factor and growing media coverage.
Adventure racing is a team sport where typically 4 team members
(of mixed gender) stay together while they navigate a course that
is disclosed to them only hours prior to the race start. The core
disciplines that make up an adventure race are mountain biking,
kayaking, trekking and navigation. Each race also introduces different/specialist
challenges which can include such activities as swimming, coasteering
(coastal running), shooting, ropes work, rock climbing, rafting
and even rollerblading.
The courses are usually set to be completed in 6, 12, 24, 48
or 120 hours. The most popular of which is the 24 hour races,
with the shorter distances becoming more popular recently with
novices and those training for the longer events.
The courses are usually set in scenic areas and typically take
competitors to places they would never have gone to normally.
