XPD Cairns has come and gone. A tough and interesting shakedown for the new Orion Health team. Brent reckons it was the most brutal race he has done to date. But the final result was a disappointment with the team having to withdraw while in the lead and almost within sight of the finish. Check out Fleur’s race report.
Next up is Explore Sweden, starting on July 10, 10am local (8pm NZST).
Stu Lynch rejoins the team for this race from his base in Bristol, UK .
The start is on the Lofoten Peninsular (NW Atlantic coast of Norway), crosses the width of Norway, over the border mountains and then down the Swedish river valleys to finish in Pitea on the Baltic coast. It will be high summer with 20+ hours of daylight. Last time Orion raced in Scandinavia (2006) there was great sea and river kayaking, mountains, caving, snow, glaciers, in-line skating, wild river crossings, fog, sunshine, auroras. This time crampons, ice axes and in-lines are not on the equipment list so the format will be a bit different, but Mikael and Helena are experienced organisers and always put on a good race.
