Interview

Where did you grow up?
Rangitoto, not the island - a small farming community east of Te Kuiti where my parents still have their Dairy farm.

What was your first Adventure race?
Leppin Big day out in 1999, held in the Kaimai Ranges in the worst weather I've ever raced in - everything since has been easier.

Little known / unlikely fact about yourself?
My middle name is "Edric Baker" which is the name of my uncle who works as a doctor in a rural village in Bangladesh.

What you will do when your knees finally give out?
Buy a dirt-bike and take up Enduro riding.

Occupation?
Farmer - Te Kuiti.

Worst Adventure racing experience?
Spending many hours lost on a farm in what should have been an easy bit of navigation near the end of a long mountainbike stage in the 2004 Southern Traverse.

Biggest "blow"?
Last stage on Day two of the Coromandel Classic 2003. Took 2 hours to complete a 30km bike leg. Consumed an entire packet of toffee pops while sitting on the side of the road.

Favourite Adventure Racing food?
Bacon and egg pie with veges for transition and jelly snakes out on the course.

Best support crew moment?
Receiving a foot wash and massage after the trekking stage in the 2003 Auckland Arrow. Far above and beyond the call of duty but pretty near the best feeling in the world.

Favourite Race?
Tie between the ARC 24hr and the Carson Challenge.
